PGB Exclusive: GMA-7 actor JC Tiuseco tweets he is downloading pirated movie

Friday, October 30th, 2009

While the government and taxpayers are spending millions of pesos for the budget allocated for the Optical Media Board, showbiz newcomer JC Tiuseco prides himself on downloading a pirated copy of the movie Paranormal Activity from Limewire. I am pretty sure JC will delete his tweets once this post reaches his cognizance.

JC first asked via his Twitter account where he can watch the the movie Paranormal Activity. Afterwards, he asked if he can download it from Limewire.  By the look of it, it seems like JC is already accustomed to downloading movies from Limewire. After few minutes, he brags about downloading it.

I am calling the attention of the Honorable Ronnie Ricketts, Chairman of the Optical Media Board to look closely into this matter.  It is very disappointing, Mr. Ricketts, to know that a member of the industry, which benefits a lot from your efforts to curb piracy is the very person who commits it. And to point out Honorable Chairman, not only commit it in silence, but announce it to around 4,000 people who follows him in the social networking site Twitter.

JC is setting a bad example to his fans and followers.  He is sending a message that it is all right to download a pirated copy of a movie. As a member of the showbiz industry, he should support the fight against piracy. I wonder how he would feel if people would rather download a pirated copy of his movie than watch in theaters?

I have nothing against Mr. JC Tiuseco’s person.  As a law student from the country’s premiere state university, I should be vigilant against people who are violating our laws.

PGB, you’re a hypocrite

Posted by pgbhypocrite at October 30, 2009, 9:44 pm

at pano naman sya naging hypocrite?

you are over reacting. laganap na yang pagdownload sa limewire, gawin man ni JC o hindi.

its more like copyright infringement? hahahaha no idea

the thing is limewire can be associated to youtube, it is really not an issue of blatant piracy or copyright infringement.. it is more of an accepted norms in the online world

no bigge

I was actually one of the few people bothered by the author to ask some legal advice regarding this post. He made it a point to be politically and legally correct. We even discussed about piracy as a transnational crime plus the idea of jus cogens, or something to that effect.

@Michiko, your argument does not hold water. The fact that distributors do not release on a timely manner is not enough to justify a CRIME.

@Kapuso Online, there was no mention that JC committed piracy. What was said that he downloaded a pirated movie. I am quite impressed with your amateur interpretation of the law. I suggest you enroll in the same law school the author attends. The UP College of Law Aptitude Exam (UP LAE) will be held in the third weekend of November, I suggest you give it a try. Who knows, out of the thousands of hopefuls, you’ll be one of the 200 hundred who will be admitted. And if it was a no biggie, I guess we should legalize petty crimes then?

Shut up Juris doctor. kung hindi ka nagdownload man lang ng kahit isang libreng kanta sa internet, at kung hindi ka man lang nanood ng kahit isang video sa youtube or in any video streaming site ng mga MTV, sige pumutak ka ng pumutak kasama nyang si Gossip boy. And that is so unlikely considering ALL people with internet access have done those things at least once. Stop being such hypocrites ok?!

Fine ,you can’t blame the distributors for late release, pero pano yung mga chop chop versions ng nirerelease nila just to get a PG rating? I’m sorry pero all those cuts ruin the experience for me. If they want to release chop chop versions, then they don’t deserve my hard earned money. Kung may maayos na legal means, I will support them. If Amazon and itunes allowed purchases from the Philippines, i will buy my mp3s there. Pero as long as wala, I’m sorry pero I’ll stick to downloading free movies and music sa the internet simply because we have no proper access to legal means.

Kung maayos na yang sistema, saka kayo pumutak ng pumutak. Halloween na hindi na nirerelease yang Paranormal Activity. Do you think they would ever release that here at all? Eh niche ang market nyan, ang distributors ang tinitingnan kung anong foreign films na magcliclick sa masa. That explains why and daming basurang B movies na narerelease dito, dahil tingin ng distributors magcliclick ang mga yun sa masa. I know what I’m talking about since i deal with several of these distributors. I know their plight na gusto nila ng PG rating to reach a broader audience, pero for me that’s disrespectful to the movie makers. Kung pera lang ang habol nila, then don’t release the movie at all, maghanap na lang sila ng mga wholesome movies to distribute.

the economic situation of our country is another issue. sige let’s say you eradicate piracy, eh kung majority naman ng mga tao walang pera pambili ng original, magkaroon man ng pirated versions o wala, hindi pa rin bebenta yang mga original na yan. wala namang magbabago. Those who have money are inclined naman to buy original material as long as accessible sya. You can’t be too clear cut on piracy laws in a third world country. Just look at the majority of the buyers of pirated dvds vs the buyers of original ones. you wouldn’t need a Phd or a law degree to figure out that they cater to different markets. Kung may overlap man, they are the exception rather than the rule. (wag na kong kontrahin dahil i work in marketing, something you LAW guys know very little about, I’m sure.)
