Col. Ariel Querubin to file Senate candidacy, to end military service in simple ceremony

After 35 years in the military, Marine Colonel Ariel Querubin will wear his uniform for the last time on Saturday as he enters the political arena to run for Senator. Instead of the customary full military honors due any officer bowing out of service, Querubin will bid the Armed Forces of the Philippines farewell in a thanksgiving mass and will officially declare his candidacy and party affiliation after the simple ceremony.
Querubin will be deemed retired from the military service upon filing his Certificate of Candidacy on November 30. He has gained prominence after a 7 hour stand off in Fort Bonifacio during the alleged coup plot of February 2006 against Mrs. Arroyo, thus chose to file his candidacy on Bonifacio Day in honor of the late Katipunero and Hero Andres Bonifacio.
The most bemedalled officer in the history of the Republic, Querubin is considered a “living hero” having been awarded the coveted Medal of Valor for heroism and bravery displayed in combat above and beyond the call of duty. Among his numerous exploits include the neutralization of the notorious Abu Sabaya, and the capture of Camp John Mack and the liberation of the municipality of Kauswagan , Lanao del Norte.
He is a member of the PMA Class of 1979 and gained a Masters Degree in Defense Studies from the University of Canberra, Australia. Querubin, who continues to face mutiny charges, will finally hang his uniform and enter public service with a platform of military reform, anti corruption and good governance. Querubin will be the first Medal of Valor Awardee to seek a Senate seat after his fellow Ilocano, the late President Ferdinand Marcos.
The members of the media are invited to attend his retirement mass on SATURDAY, the 28th of NOVEMBER, 2009 at the St Ignatius of Loyola Cathedral, Camp Aguinaldo , Quezon City , at 8’oclock in the morning. This will be the last time the public will get a glimpse of Querubin in his Military Dress Blue wearing the Medal of Valor. (the formal attire for members of the Philippine Marines).
His wife Pong and all his seven (7) children will be in attendance, as well as his close friends, relatives, allies and supporters.
